Mexico is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. It is the fourth country with the greatest variety of species, the second with most reptile varieties, third with mammals, fifth with plants, and eighth with more birds and amphibians.

It has over 340 species of birds, more than 80 species of butterflies and over 2,000 types of plants.

In addition, Mexico has the second largest variety of ecosystems in the world. There are 181 protected natural areas, constituting 13% of the country’s territory.
